EXPLORERS EXPLODE TO TOP THE WILD

The Sullivan Explorers (6-7) the Old Orchard Beach Surge (9-4) with a final score of 18-6 on Wednesday night at The Ballpark in Old Orchard Beach.

The Explorers took a 2-0 lead in the 1st inning, with a solo homerun from designated hitter Kevin Putkonen and an RBI single from first baseman Brian Fay. An error gave them a 3-0 lead in the 2nd.

The Explorers offense came alive in the 3rd inning, scoring 8 runs. Niko Ruiz and Bryan Hoover each picked up RBIs. A passed ball scored another. Third baseman Nate Coronado then knocked a 2-run double. A 3-run homerun for center fielder Gevon Jackson would put Sullivan ahead 11-0.

The Surge would pick up a run in the 3rd, with center fielder Shaun Cooper knocking an RBI single.

Putkonen would add to the Sullivan lead in the 4th with a 2-run homerun, his second of the game to take a 13-1 lead.

Sullivan took a 16-3 lead in the 6th inning. Coronado knocked an RBI double. Jackson added an RBI triple. A wild pitch would allow the 3rd run of the inning.

Rich Baerga took over the mound for Frank in the 6th. Frank tossed for 3 complete innings, allowing 9 hits and 7 runs while walking 2 and striking out 1.

The Surge added 2 more runs in the 7th, with right fielder Sean Washington knocking a 2-run single.

Allen picked up another RBI single in the 8th, bringing the score to 16-6 in favour of the Explorers.

Hayoto Shigeta and Bryan Hoover each picked up an RBI in the 9th, bringing their lead to 18-6.

Harrison Lee started for the Explorers and picks up his league leading 3rd win of the season.

The Explorers finish the series tonight for their 4-game series finale at 6:30pm.
