LOCH SHELDRAKE, NY  – The Sullivan Explorers  season came  to an end today with a double header sweep of the Old Orchard Beach Surge winning 13 to 5 and 2 to 1.

The Explorers did not repeat to get into the playoffs this year as  they finished in last overall after winning a championship last season. However they played a big role in how other teams finished defeating the Surge in final series.

The Sullivan Explorers would like to thank all of the fans, players, families and friends for all your support and look ahead for a great season next year.

LOCH SHELDRAKE, NY – Islanders sweep yet another double header from the Explorers to win their 7th consecutive game. This is the longest winning streak in franchise history.

In Game one, the Islanders defeated the Explorers 3-1 on a great pitchers duel. Drue Bravo tossed 6 and 2/3  innings of work and got the loss but not before striking out 10 Islanders.  David Wynn earned the victory as he tossed 6 innings  striking out 5 batters  allowing just 1 earned run on 5 hits.

The Islanders took the lead when Edwin Arroyo singled up the middle that scored Nick McHugh. On that same play, Kenneth Collins scored on an error by outfielder Joe Fiorino to make the game 2-0.  Joe Fiorino would pick his team back up as he doubled to score the teams only run but wasn’t enough to beat the Islanders.

In Game two, Islanders once again defeated the Explorers by the score 11-2. Kurtis Hultz earned his first ever professional victory. Edwin Arroyo led the way for the Islanders as he belted his first career professional home run while adding 2 more singles on a career night for Arroyo. Dioni Rodriguez belted his second home run of the season and Trey Hannam also homered  as he now has homered in two consecutive games. Cosme Zapata tossed three scoreless innings.

The teams will face each other one last time this season tomorrow at 3:30pm before Islanders head to Plattsburgh and Surge come to Sullivan on what will be the second half deciding series.

OLD ORCHARD BEACH, ME – Old Orchard Beach Surge starting Pitcher Eric Mozeika tossed a complete game shutout in a 7-0 victory over the Sullivan Explorers.

Mozeika was spectacular on the hill tonight going the distance against a very good hitting Sullivan Explorers. In the 9 innings, Mozeika allowed 7 hits, walked 4 batters and struck out 7 Explorers. The win is Mozeikas 3rd win of the year.

Sullivan Starter Robbie Kidd tossed 6 innings giving up 4 earned runs on 8 hits while striking out 6 batters.

Edwin Arroyo, Kevin Putkonen and Gevon Jackson led the way offensively for the Surge with 2 hits each including 2 doubles and 2 RBIs from Jackson and 1 RBI from both Putkonen and Arroyo. Alexander Bee has been very impressive since joining the Surge as he has hit safely in all of his starts including a 1 for 2 performance with 2 walks.

Sullivan Explorers had some opportunities to score runs but great defense from the Surge prevented that. Explorers offense was led by Brandon Young who had 2 base hits in the game.

The Surge improve their record to (7-1) while the Explorers drop to (1-6). Both teams are set to face each other in a series ending double header. Games are at 1:00pm and 4:00pm. Tickets are on sale at

OLD ORCHARD BEACH, ME – The Explorers get their first win of the second half against first place Surge in an excellent outing by Explorers starter Billy Felo.


Felo started for the Explorers and went 6 innings of work allowing just 5 hits and no runs while striking out 1 batter. Joe Macks came in relief and pitched  3 innings  finishing the game with 2 runs allowed on 2 hits.


Casey Cannon started for the Surge and was not himself as he allowed  only 1 earned run out of 7 that scored. That’s right, 7 total runs given up for Cannon but only 1 was earned as defense made several mistakes  scoring several runs per mistake.


Luc Pomales led  the game offensively with  2 hits including a big blast to left center field. Luc added a double and 3 RBIs.  Brian Wirth also a main  part of the offense as he had 4 RBIs and 2 hits.


Gevon Jackson had 2 of the 5 total hits the Surge had in the game. He belted a solo homer  over the left field wall as well as a double.


Old Orchard Beach Surge moves to (3-1) while the Sullivan Explorers improve to (1-3) for the second half.


Next Game is to be played tomorrow night at 6:30pm at  The Ballpark in OOB.
